Periarticular Plating System

peripltsys01

One of the most difficult challenges in the treatment of periarticular fractures is bending the plate to fit the specific profile of the bone. Conventional plating systems often require extensive intraoperative shaping to accommodate the patient’s bone geometry. The Periarticular Plating System is pre-contoured to closely follow the shape of the bone and create a fit that requires little or no additional bending.

Using digital laser bone scanning techniques, a broad cross section of cadaver distal femurs and proximal and distal tibias was analyzed. This allowed the Periarticular Plating System design team to determine accurate implant contours. These data were then used to guide advanced fabricating technologies in the manufacture of pre-contoured implants. In many cases, the implants will fit without the need for further bending. If bending is necessary, it can typically be accomplished with minimal effort.

The system includes a full range of proximal tibial, distal femoral, distal tibial, proximal and distal humeral, distal radial, fibular, and proximal ulna applications, together with a comprehensive offering of low-profile screws. The screws can be used with the Periarticular Plating System, conventional stainless steel implants or independently.peripltsys02

The plate thickness decreases toward the joint line to simplify additional contouring and reduce the potential for soft tissue irritation. This reduced thickness also allows the implant to “autocontour” to the bone as the screws draw it toward the bone.
